Self-Organising Networks Demo @ 4G World, Chicago

Date: 2009-09-16

On the 4G World in Chicago, Nokia Siemens Networks showed its SON demonstration for the first time which is co-developed by Nomor Research. SON (“Self-Organized Networks”) automates the configuration, operation and optimization of cellular networks to improve network quality and reduce operational expenditures.

The demo focussed on the use case “load balancing” which in the future will help to resolve local traffic concentrations. By help of a spectacular 3D GUI the ability to dynamically handover users from an overloaded cell to a low-loaded neighbour despite worse radio conditions was presented. As a consequence user satisfaction is significantly increased. This new SON demonstrator is a consequent continuation of the successful NSN-Nomor collaboration which in the past led to many demonstrations in the field of Radio Resource Management with the famous real-time emulators.
